Hi Jennifer! What was your background before coming to study at IGR-IAE Rennes?

Prior to my academic journey at IGR-IAE Rennes, I had worked in the field of human resource management, amassing over three years of in-depth experience in Nigeria’s tech industry. Specifically, I navigated roles such as an HR Business Partner and Tech Recruiter, positions that allowed me to engage with cutting-edge recruitment strategies and business partnership methodologies within a leading cryptocurrency company.

What was your motivation for this study project in France?

My motivation was to expand my skills and acquire a more nuanced, global understanding of business strategies and human resource approaches as well as combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. I was also eager to build on my existing knowledge and experience, embracing the opportunities at IGR-IAE Rennes, by being the first choice for international students seeking a comprehensive understanding of business and management in a global context.

What would you advise an international student with a study project at IGR-IAE Rennes?

I would advise international students be prepared to embrace a new culture. France’s social norms, teaching methods, and daily life can differ significantly from those in Nigeria or other countries. Take time to understand these differences to integrate better into both the academic and local community. Learning basic French, if you’re not already proficient, can significantly enhance your daily life experiences, even though your courses might be in English.

What is your best surprise/memory of your arrival in France/Rennes/IGR-IAE Rennes?

One of my most cherished surprises upon arriving in France was the heartfelt welcome I received right in Rennes. What made it particularly memorable was the unexpected gesture of kindness from a classmate I had connected with earlier, as we had applied for the same course. This warm reception not only caught me by surprise but also set a wonderfully positive tone for my subsequent experiences at IGR and in Rennes.

What is your worst surprise/memory of your arrival in France/Rennes/IGR-IAE Rennes?

My most challenging surprise upon arrival in Rennes didn’t exactly qualify as a “worst” memory, but it was certainly an unexpected hurdle. When I reached my dorm/apartment, I discovered that the facility managers spoke only French. This was particularly striking because I was under the impression that the housing was designated for international students, and naturally, I expected the presence of English-speaking staff to assist with our daily needs. The initial struggle to communicate effectively felt like a missed step in an environment that was supposed to embrace students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

What are the highlights of the program of the IHRM?

The IHRM program at IGR-IAE Rennes stood out for several reasons. Firstly, the curriculum’s global perspective was enlightening, offering insights into diverse workplace cultures. Collaborative projects and case studies facilitated hands-on learning, while interaction with diverse student peers broadened my cultural awareness and networking.

What do you miss most after the end of your studies at IGR-IAE Rennes?

What I miss most post-IGR is the vibrant international community that supported a culture of shared learning and exchange of ideas. The environment, where every day offered new challenges and discoveries, was invigorating. These experiences made my time at IGR uniquely enriching

After graduating from IGR, my career path has been rewarding. I began my professional journey in Berlin with a telecommunications startup, stepping into the role of Talent Acquisition Specialist. As I grew more adept and confident in my capabilities, new opportunities came on, leading me to a pivotal role at one of Europe’s online international C2C companies. Serving in the Talent Operations space, where I focused on the intricacies of processes, data, and overarching systems, an experience that not only broadened my skill set but also deepened my understanding of the corporate landscape at a macro level.

What did you think about the welcome events (buddy program, Move&Share, help of the international service, CMI, etc.)?

I would say the buddy program needs to be improved as I registered for this and no one was assigned to me upon my arrival.
