International students discover Brittany and its surroundings – Sept 2026

International students at IGR-IAE Rennes are continuing their exploration of French and Breton culture through a program of outings and cultural activities, accompanied by their French as a Foreign Language (FLE) teachers, Marcos Molina Fernandez and François Preterre.

In September, several events gave them the chance to explore Breton heritage—as well as Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy—discover local traditions, and share enjoyable moments, all while practicing French in real-life situations.

Friday, September 11 – La Gacilly and Monteneuf

The day began in La Gacilly with a visit to the Maison Yves Rocher and the famous La Gacilly Photo Festival—an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of photography and discover an iconic local landmark.

In the afternoon, the students continued exploring Breton heritage in Monteneuf, where they admired the alignments of standing stones (menhirs) and learned more about Brittany’s megalithic history.

Wednesday, September 16 – Rennes and Breton traditions

The students first took part in a scavenger hunt in the heart of Rennes. Divided into teams, they completed various challenges across the city, discovering its landmarks in a fun way and interacting with local residents. This afternoon of lively interaction concluded with drinks in the lush setting of Thabor Park.

In the evening, it was time for Breton traditions! At the Celtic Club of Rennes, the students discovered Breton dance and tried their hand at this iconic aspect of regional culture, enjoying a warm and festive atmosphere.

Friday, September 18 – Discovering Mont-Saint-Michel

To wrap up this program of cultural outings, the students headed to Mont-Saint-Michel, an iconic French heritage site and a must-visit destination in Normandy. The visit offered them the chance to explore an exceptional location, distinguished by its history, architecture, and unique natural setting.

Immersing themselves in local culture

These outings provide wonderful opportunities for international students to explore their surroundings, gain a deeper understanding of French and Breton culture, and build bonds with their fellow students. They also help enrich their French language learning through the conversations, encounters, and experiences shared along the way. It is a program defined by discovery, sharing, and a friendly atmosphere!
