On 6 December 2024, our international students had the opportunity to visit the Musée de Beaux-Arts in Rennes.
The first part consisted of a one-hour guided tour, during which a professional guide showed them around the museum, explaining all the spaces, many of the works, and recounting historical and artistic curiosities linked to the works of art and the city of Rennes.
In the second part, the students were free to continue their visit, with an educational objective: they had to find 3 works of art that represented or evoked their experience of Rennes.
Their French teacher, Marcos Molina Fernandez, had set them the objective of preparing an exhibition during the holidays, and at the beginning of the second semester, they would have to present these works in class, and explain why these works represent for them their experience in Rennes so far.
The cultural interest is obvious: discovering a magnificent space in Rennes, home to a large number of works of art, ranging from priceless pieces from ancient Egypt (including mummies), to Renaissance paintings or sculptures.
From a pedagogical point of view, the students were able to follow all the explanations in French, they were able to ask questions and they will have the opportunity to prepare a personal presentation in French based on some of the works of art present in the museum.
26 first-year Master’s students took part in the visit, accompanied by Marcos Molina Fernandez, Rebecca Dickason, who had invited Professor Jean-François Chanlat.
